Hall Property

The UT has a synopsis of the current Hall property situation. Dan Dalager is always good for a quote and this is no exception. He states the city can afford phase 1, as long as we redefine phase 1. Be he fails to mention how to redefine.
How about this idea for phase 1. Put grass in the entire park, mark out some trails and let people use the dang thing. It shouldn't cost much to do that and that way the space in getting some mileage while everyone battles it out about the soccer fields and lighting.

Dan also said, "If we don't build more soccer fields, we'll have to build more jails" and "Left field is enough of a buffer zone" (for park neighbors)

The planning commission recommends:
“ Commissioners called for replacing at least one of the dedicated soccer fields with passive uses, such as trails or open space. Early documents show community support for passive uses at the site.”
“Commissioner Virginia Felker said that the project had languished for too long. “We’ve been talking about this since 2001,” she said. “Hopefully, we can come up with something that most people will be happy with.” She noted that records from several public meetings dating back to 2002 show that many residents don’t want a sports-focused facility at the site.”
“Commissioner Gene Chapo had a conciliatory tone. “I want to strive to try to find a project somewhere in this 2,500 pages of document and all of these consultants … that we can support together,” he said. “It really is in our interest that this project gets built.”

In a time of drought, this it not a good idea. Building three fields and open space areas trails with drought tolerent landscape first makes more sense.
Most of the stakeholders want a Community Park with amenities for all, not a Special Use/Sports Park limiting the amenities for the rest.
Everyone want a park with playing fields.
Support the Planning Commission recomendations and BUILD THE PARK.
What is holding the project up is the demand from one side that they MUST HAVE NO LESS THAN FIVE FIELDS.

I want tennis courts, isn't there a tennis league out there who can spam the council like the ESL does? If so, let me know. Thanks.

If you feel that public amenities are being
Sacrificed for the sake of a sports park ,let the
Council know on the 20th @ 4pm at the
Council meeting where they want to reject the recommendations of the planning commission.

I feel its wrong that the City, who sits as "judge" on the appeal, is also the appellant of the Planning Commission decision.

I feel it could and should be scaled back even more, to two or three full size fields, plus baseball diamonds. One was just opened in Vista, for only 12 million dollars, with one full sized field and many more opportunities for trails, passive use for the ENTIRE community. Also, most youth soccer uses half fields, so usually a game can be played on each half field.

This whole sports league influence on Council is political and is not what the majority of the residents of Encinitas want.

James Bond, Jerome Stocks and Dan Dalager are being selfish, deceptive, and short sighted.

The silent majority of Encinitas residents want this field to be built. Do you realize we are 80% below the city parks guidelines of open park space for a city our size? Any park is a welcome site in this town.
